Jul 22 Lay Preaching Course Offered
The course is designed to equip lay persons with skills and techniques they can utilize to prepare and deliver sermons when called upon to do so in their church and/or their district.
The training also includes instruction on the basics of public speaking, which can be utilized in other teaching and/or speaking situations.

Aug 5 Soul Care Workshop
Looking for a way your church can reach out to military vets and active duty personnel?
On Aug 5, Harbor District’s Military Community Outreach Advisory Team (MCOAT) will offer a Day of Learning for clergy and laity who are interested in learning more about how to begin/expand this type of ministry.
The day will be led by David Smith. David is a retired US Army Chaplain (with over 30 years of military service) and an ordained Elder in the United Methodist Church.
Aug 19 Congregations For Children (C4C) Summit
Is your church engaged in ministry with a local public school? If not, are you considering such a ministry? Over 83% of the 800+ United Methodist churches in our conference are participating in the C4C initiative.
On Aug 19, our conference will be holding its fourth annual C4C Summit at Edenton Street United Methodist Church in Raleigh from 10am-2pm.
The program will include an overview of the Congregations For Children Initiative, practical tips on things your church can do, great guest speakers, time for interaction and discussion, helpful reference materials and yes lunch.
Churches are encouraged to send at least one representative to this summit but groups are also welcome.

Sep 2 Congregations For Children Leadership Course
If you or someone in your church is interested in receiving in-depth training on how to start/expand, apply best practices and coordinate a C4C program, this will be a very helpful course to attend.
It will be offered on Sep 2 at the Methodist Building in Garner from 10am-4pm.

Sep 24 Racial Taboo Event
There will be a district wide Racial Taboo Event held on the afternoon of Sep 24th at Wesley Memorial UMC in Wilmington. All interested clergy and laity are welcome to attend. More information is forthcoming. Please save the date.
Harbor District Missional Areas Of Focus
The Harbor District Mission Strategy Team meets regularly with the DS and ADS to review and discuss ways in which our churches can help people in need in our local communities. A list of the areas of need which have been identified as most critical is shown below. We are working on addressing each of these areas on an ongoing basis through facilitating various ministries, outreach, collaboration and relationship building efforts.
