In The United Methodist Church, lay people play an important role in leadership and are also utilized for certain preaching situations. The Lay Servant Ministries program offers a training course for those individuals who are interested in improving their lay preaching skills and/or pursuing certification as a UMC Lay Speaker.
This Lay Preaching Course will be offered in Harbor District on:
Date: July 22 (Saturday)
Place: Trinity UMC in Elizabethtown (901 W. Broad St.)
Time: 9am to 5pm
The course is designed to equip lay persons with skills and techniques they can utilize to prepare and deliver sermons when called upon to do so in their church and/or their district. The training also includes instruction on the basics of public speaking, which can be utilized in other teaching and/or speaking situations. The primary instructor for this course will be Rev. Francis Daniel.
The course tuition is $25, plus the cost of the course book (see below).
The course book is entitled “From Pew To Pulpit – A Beginners Guide To Preaching” by Clifton Guthrie. Those taking the course are responsible for ordering the book in time to read it before the course. Don’t worry, it’s an “easy read.” The cost of the book is $10.79.
