Aug 1 – Deadline for submitting 2017 Annual Audits
All churches are to have their 2017 Annual Audits submitted via the Online Data Collection System (OLDCS) by this date. For churches who have pastors who are moving, the deadline is July 1.
Aug 4 – Lay Servant Ministries Advanced Course – “Leading Worship” – from 9am to 5pm @ Burgaw UMC (110 E Bridgers St, Burgaw, NC). Course Description: This advanced course focuses on the ministry of the Lay Servant who either regularly or occasionally leads a group, class, organization, or the congregation in worship. Topics include: basic resources for planning and leading worship; basic pattern of UM worship and its origins; how to renew and revitalize worship; effective leading of worship planning; and understanding the uniqueness of UM worship. Aug 11 – C4C Summit – This event will take place at Edenton Street in Raleigh from 10am to 2:30pm and will focus on the involvement of churches in community wide efforts related to childhood literacy and overall wellness. Pastors and laity leaders of churches who are currently engaged in (or interested in exploring) C4C are encouraged to attend. For more information and to register click HERE
Aug 18 – District Set Up Meeting – Details will be released once planning is finalized. As in years past, Lay Leaders will be invited to attend with their pastors. This event will take place at Lake Waccamaw UMC.
Aug 28 – From Membership To Discipleship Workshop – This training event will be held in partnership with the Gateway District at Chestnut Street UMC (Lumberton) from 10am to 3:30pm. Pastors and laity leaders are encouraged to attend. The training will be led by Dr. Phil Maynard (UM pastor and congregational development consultant) and will cover the development of a discipleship system for your congregation. Phil’s work answers two fundamental questions: “What behaviors mark the lives of growing disciples?” and “How does the church provide the support and tools disciples need if they are growing toward maturity? ” More information and registration details will be sent soon.
Sep 14 – District Fun & Fellowship Day for Clergy – This will be a day for the pastors in the district to get together for some fun and fellowship. Details will be communicated once planning is finalized.
Oct 13-14 – Cluster Charge Conferences – Details will be communicated once planning is finalized.
Oct 27 – Lay Servant Ministries Advanced Course “United Methodist Polity”
From 9am to 5pm @ Epworth UMC in Clinton. Course Description: Why does The United Methodist Church do things the way it does? And what does any of this have to do with trying to be a place and a people that embody the Kingdom of God? This course gives participants an overview of the structure and organization of The United Methodist Church. Topics include: understanding different types of sermons; finding the story and using the hymnal; reading the Bible aloud; communicating on paper and moving beyond it and sermon delivery skills.
