Have you ever wondered about the substitute who delivers the message when your pastor is absent? Who is this person? How does he or she get chosen to fill the pulpit? The answer: That person is a Certified Lay Speaker who has been called by the Holy Spirit to become part of Lay Servant Ministries. As a disciple of Jesus Christ “for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ”. (Eph. 4:12) he or she has completed Lay Servant Ministry courses.
Lay Servants are not only Lay Speakers but also can serve as Certified Lay Ministers or Lay Missioners. If you aren’t called to fill the pulpit but have a willing heart, there are many opportunities to serve.
Pray about serving as a Lay Servant. If you feel the call, please speak with your pastor about it. For more information you can also contact Sandy Core, Harbor District Lay Servant Ministry Director, by emailing her at sjcore@live.com.
