Pastors, Trustees, and Finance Chairs:
Grace and peace to you. Several of you have reached out in the last few weeks to say your insurance renewals are astronomical! Our Treasurer’s Office began to hear some possibility of such last fall and offered a webinar.
If you have not seen it, you can find the webinar here. Please use the link to watch the 30-minute informative webinar and gain some footing in moving forward well. It may be helpful to have your Trustees view this together so all the information can be shared with them. The policies being offered, IF they are being offered, are likely not affordable for most churches. Some companies, like Church Mutual, are simply dropping coverage altogether with very little warning.
Some congregations are finding they can get a wind-only policy from another provider and make it work for their budgets. She also mentions the NC Joint Underwriters Association as a possible help. Please check into this as soon as possible so that you are not caught unaware when your policy comes up for renewal. If you miss a payment, some companies are, again, simply saying your policy has lapsed with no opportunity for renewal.
The Treasurer’s office has a page that might be helpful. Their property insurance referrals page has information and options that have been referred from other clergy or laity within the Conference. If you have time during a lunch break, the Treasurer’s office will be hosting a new webinar in July with Sovereign Insurance Group. This event will take place on July 18 from 12:00 to 1:00 pm.
