A Workshop on
How to Love Those You Disagree With
Saturday, October 2nd from 4:30 pm to 6:00 pm
at Wesley Memorial UMC
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION
For years, Christians have argued, debated, and fought one another while “speaking the truth in love,” yet we are no closer to the grace-filled life Jesus modeled. A biblically-based Christian life is not grounded in having all the answers but in participating in a loving relationship. This ultimately shifts our focus from collecting the “right” answers to loving others deeply and authentically.
Jared Byas designed the Love Matters More Workshop to help Christians learn to lovingly talk with folks on “opposite sides of the aisle.” The workshop includes teaching, interactive exercises, and time for reflection geared towards drawing participants back to the heart of the Bible: that truth is only true when it’s lived out in love.
For anyone who has ever felt forced to choose between truth and love, acceptance and rightness, this workshop offers a path forward beyond truth wars and legalistic religion to a love that matters more.
The workshop will be held in the Activity Building at Wesley Memorial UMC. Reservations will NOT be required, but please contact the church office (910.791.4092 or office@welcometowesley.com) so that we will have an estimate of how many to expect.
On Sunday, October 3, Jared will be the guest preacher at The Oasis service at 9 am and the 11am traditional service.
